Rent-to-Own: Ride Now, Buy Later - No Upfront Cost
For couriers and last-mile riders working daily delivery routes in Berlin, committing to a bike outright isn't always the right move - especially when you're not sure how long you'll need it, or whether this model is the right fit for your workload.
Rent-to-Own (RTO) is built for exactly that situation. You start riding straight away, pay monthly, and at the end of your term, you decide: buy the bike for a pre-defined price or simply return it. No upfront investment. No obligation to buy.
What is a Rent-to-Own?
Rent-to-Own sits between a subscription and an outright purchase. Here's how the three models compare:
With RTO, the bike remains CYCLE's asset during the contract period. At the end, you can exercise the purchase option at the pre-agreed price or simply return the bike, with no further obligation.
Monthly rate and purchase option; choose your term
The longer the term, the lower your monthly payment — and the lower the final purchase price. All rates are fixed from the day you sign: no hidden fees, no adjustment clauses.
What's included in every plan?
Every Rent-to-Own plan includes:
- Your e-bike: the brand new Tonda+
- Maintenance and repairs - including a generous allowance of wear-and-tear parts (tires, tubes, brake pads, brake discs, chains). To keep you rolling, each plan comes with a set amount of these parts included:
- 4 for 6-month plans,
- 8 for 12-month plans, and
- 12 for 18-month plans.
- Additional wearable parts beyond these allowances are available at a nominal cost.
- Optional extras - batteries, chargers, and accessories can be added during check-out.
Note: Coverage is strictly limited to the wear-and-tear parts listed above. Repairs for non-wear-and-tear items resulting from misuse, are not included in the monthly rate.
The brand new Tonda+ - first batch reserved for RTO
The Tonda+ is CYCLE's flagship delivery e-bike was built for couriers who ride hard and need a bike that keeps up. With a 960 Wh battery, a range of up to 100 km, and a high-torque motor with torque sensor assist, it responds to how you actually ride rather than just how fast you pedal. Heavy-duty hydraulic disc brakes, 20-inch puncture-protected fat tyres, and an integrated rear rack make it ready for daily use straight out of the box. It also comes with built-in IoT connectivity, so fleet operators get real-time data and remote safety controls.
The Tonda+ is coming soon to Berlin. If you're interested in being among the first to ride it through our Rent-to-Own programme, let us know by selecting the right plan!
Currently available in Berlin for the pilot phase
The Rent-to-Own programme is currently in its pilot phase, available in Berlin. Pick-up is from the CYCLE workshop in Kreuzberg, and availability is really limited during this period - so be fast to secure your Tonda+.
If you're based in Berlin and working regular delivery routes, this is early access to a product built around how professional couriers actually work.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I want to stop before my term ends?
The RTO contract runs for the full agreed term. Early termination means the purchase option expires, and standard close-out terms apply. Full details can be found in the Terms & Conditions.
Is the purchase price guaranteed from day one?
Yes. Your purchase option price is fixed in the subscription details at checkout and does not change, regardless of how the bike's market value shifts during the term.
What happens to maintenance and insurance after I buy the bike?
Once you exercise the purchase option and ownership transfers, the service subscription ends. The bike is sold in its current condition. If you want to continue with a service subscription after ownership, contact the CYCLE team.
Can I add accessories or an extra battery?
Yes. At sign-up, you can select optional add-ons, including extra batteries and chargers, to include in your monthly plan.
